Bone Grafting / Sinus Lifts

Sinus Lifts & Bone Grafting in Decatur, GA
Do you have missing teeth? Particularly along your upper jaw? If you're planning to get dental implants, you need a stable foundation to support them. A sinus lift and bone grafting can ensure that you do.

What is a Sinus Lift?
The roots of your upper back teeth rest directly next to your nasal sinuses. Any time a tooth is removed or falls out, there's a tendency for the sinus lining to "drop" in that area. If you were to install a dental implant where the root once stood, it would rupture through the lining of your sinuses.

During a sinus lift procedure, we gently raise the floor of your sinus cavity to create space for the implant to fit. That way you won't have to worry about complications or infections.

Bone Grafting
Our Decatur dentist, Dr. Haider, will want to perform a bone grafting along with the sinus lift procedure. After the sinus floor is raised, something needs to fill that space in. In this case, it needs to be bone. When the graft (also called bone augmentation) is completed, it can integrate with your new implant to keep it permanently supported.

Will I Need a Bone Graft or Sinus Lift?
Each of our Decatur dental implant cases is unique. Since sinus lifts only pertain to upper back teeth, they're not applicable for implants elsewhere in the mouth. Bone grafts, however, can be placed anywhere that doesn't have enough bone support for an implant or natural tooth. We frequently use bone grafts for treating cases of trauma or periodontal disease.
